November 2014 Newsletter

Dear Ikebana Members,

Our October meeting taken by Sandi Hurnard was most enjoyable. After showing us some arrangements based on classic Ikebana rules we all then had a go with our own containers. It is always nice to have meetings at the Japanese Cultural Centre as we are warmly welcomed.

Spring has had the usual mix of weather in Wellington. Along with the wind, sometime gale force, we have had enough rain and some warm to hot days to encourage a great deal of growth. The blossom trees have been gorgeous but the gorse on the hillside show they are enjoying it too.

Thanks to Elizabeth McMillan and her team of helpers who ran one of the most successful Ikebana workshops for beginners at the Botanic garden Begonia house at the end of September. All 18 people showed up and they are even thinking of having 2 sessions next year if the interest is high.

That brings us to November which has become our month of having an outing. This year we are going to visit the lovely garden of Georgina Connolly. Please meet on Thursday, November 6th at 10:30 at 7/238 Muratai Road, Eastbourne. We may visit the Rona Art Gallery on our way back to the lunch stop which will be at the Williams Park Pavilion in Days Bay. Let’s hope for fine weather which would be a plus when visiting that lovely area.

We hope all you out of town members are well and might be able to come to Wellington to one of our meetings in 2015.

Yours in friendship through flowers,
Barbara Fowler (President)
