May 2015 Newsletter

Dear Ikebana Members,
Our April meeting was held on the top floor of the Majestic Centre as they are still working on earthquake proofing the JICC rooms on the 18th floor. The views from way up there were fantastic but the thought of an earthquake happening when you are so far up isn’t a thought you want to linger on. Valerie Ting gave an interesting talk on Kumihimo and what an old Japanese craft it is. Several samples of her work were circulated and many books showed the possible uses for the braid.

Our May meeting on Thursday 14th is a workshop taken by Christopher James from Melbourne. It is important to register by May 6th so the correct amount of lunches can be ordered. We are asking everyone to be at the All Saints church hall, 90 Hamilton Road, Hataitai between 9 and 9:30 when tea and coffee will be available. The workshop will start promptly at 10:00 and finish at 12 noon. Please bring fruiting branches or succulents for the arrangement. If you have not registered when you receive this newsletter please phone Helen Wareham on 970 9573.

Following our lunch our yearly AGM, Annual General Meeting, will take place so please plan to stay as we need a quorum of our members to complete requirements. Though some of our members are leaving the committee several of the hard workers are staying on. We are not pressuring anyone to join the committee just support it in any way you can.
June is the month we need to send our yearly subscription to II headquarters in Tokyo. We are glad to be able to keep the subs. at $70.00 per person. I encourage you to make that payment by cheque or direct payment to our bank account, Ikebana International Wellington Chapter, number 02 0544 021752300. Please be sure to record your name in the subject area and ‘annual sub’ elsewhere. The cheque can be sent to Helen Wareham, 200 Oriental Pde., Oriental Bay. Thank you.

I am leaving the committee so this is my last newsletter. I want to thank everyone who has helped me during my two years as president and made the job easier. I have enjoyed many aspects of the time but am looking forward to more time to chat with members at the meetings.

Yours in friendship through flowers,
Barbara Fowler
