May 2014 Newsletter

by on 25 Apr 2014

Dear II members,

It was a pretty fine long Easter weekend in Wellington and we certainly were lucky with the weather compared with many other parts of the country.

There were 14 members and 6 non-members at the workshop taken by Takako Martin in April. The large room at the Wilton Bowling club was very suitable giving us room to spread out. The theme of ‘mass and line’ saw a great contrast of material and interpretations and everyone did enjoy the morning I’m sure.

Our May meeting falls on Thursday the 1st and it is the AGM. We will meet at 10:30 at the JICC room, 18th floor of the Majestic Centre. Be sure to bring your coffee up with you. There will be no pressure on members to join the committee but we do want you to come along as a quorum of members is required. The nominees for the committee are as follows:

  • President –
  • Secretary – Mary-Elizabeth Bayliss
  • Treasurer – Helen Wareham
  • Committee- Erris Thomson, Sandi Hurnard, Judy Grocott, Valerie Ting, Barbara Fowler, Elizabeth McMillan, Satomi Takahashi, Flo Snowden.

As you can see I am not standing for president again but we are hoping we can share out those duties to keep Wellington chapter going for another year until someone else takes over. Following this formal procedure, Setsuko Kennedy will speak about learning Ikebana in Japan and some of the countries she has visited in the role of ‘wife of a NZ ambassador’. It should be a most interesting and informative talk.

This is the time of year when we advise members that the yearly subscription of $70.00 is due. Our committee has agreed not to increase the amount but will carry on subsidizing each member. The financial year runs from July 1st – June 30th so I would ask you to make your payment by cash, cheque or internet banking. Cheques should be made to Ikebana International, Wellington chapter and sent to Helen Wareham, 10 Armour Ave, Mt Victoria, Wellington, 6011. Alternatively, $70.00 may be deposited by internet payment to Ikebana International, Wellington chapter account # 02-0544-0217523-00. Please record your name in the statement details and record the reference as ‘annual sub’. There will be another reminder in the June newsletter.
It has been an interesting year for me in this position improving my computer skills but putting pressure on as well. It is always nice getting to know members better and so there have been many plus sides too. Thank you for your understanding.

Yours in friendship through flowers,

Barbara Fowler (President)
