February 2017 Newsletter

by on 1 Feb 2017

Dear Ikebana Members,

In my last Newsletter to you I said that we would not be meeting until March but in the meantime a number of things have occurred and we will have the opportunity for a get together in February after all.

We have had an offer of an Ikenobo demonstration to be given by Kaori Sharkey’s mother. Many of you will have met Kaori at the Dowse opening. She is a delightful and helpful person. While Kaori’s mother does not speak English, Kaori will be attending the demonstration and will translate for us. It would be lovely if those of you who are Japanese speakers could attend as this would make Kaori’s mother feel more relaxed. The demonstration will take place on the morning of Tuesday 21 February at Elizabeth McMillan’s home at 64 Ludlam Street, Seatoun., at 11 am (Please note time). This will be followed by a light lunch.

Can you please email or phone Erris [934-4753] or myself [970-6809] if you intend coming so that we can cater for lunch.

Secondly, the date of our March meeting has changed to Thursday 9th March. I have arranged for Takako Martin to come and take a class for us. Takako was not available the previous week and will also be taking classes for Sogetsu members on Saturday 11th March. This allows us to share travel and accommodation costs with Sogetsu.

Our workshop has as its theme “Arrangement in a box(es)”. This will take place on March 9 at the Wilton Bowling Club. Can you please be there no later than 9:30 am. There will be no charge for those of you who are members of our Wellington Chapter #158. For Ikebana International members from other Chapters we will charge $10 and for all other non-members $25. It would be lovely to meet Takako informally so do stay and have lunch. We can provide a paper-bag lunch but there will be a $12 charge and you will need to book this ahead of the time. The details of the workshop are on the following page.
