December 2015 Newsletter

Dear Ikebana Members,

My first 6 months as President have been incredibly busy but very rewarding. Each month seems filled with activities and we have managed to host not only workshops by a visiting tutor (the second for this calendar year) but we also mounted an Exhibition at very short notice.

A very big thank you to Helen for demonstrating and leading last month’s workshop which all the attendees thoroughly enjoyed. As you are probably aware Helen has had to deal with health issues for her husband as well as herself and her efforts are greatly appreciated.

Our last meeting of the year will be held from 10:30 am on Thursday December 3rd at Elizabeth McMillan’s home at 64 Ludlam Street, Seatoun. Parking is not an issue but if possible why don’t you car pool or even catch a number 11 bus? Elizabeth informs me these leave every 15 minutes which is an excellent service.

Elizabeth has suggested that everyone turn up with a Christmas table arrangement which you have prepared ahead of time. These will be displayed on the small tables she will have set up for the morning teas. Arrangements do not have to be an “ikebana” style so feel free to dust down the oasis and raid the fir trees. Morning tea will be provided by Committee members.

This will be our last activity until March 3 2016 when we are planning a visit to the Shape Shifters Exhibition in Lower Hutt. These displays of sculpture are held every 2 years and are well worth seeing. If you haven’t been before do join us for an enjoyable outing.

I am unable to attend next month’s celebration at Elizabeth’s as I will be in the South Island but fortunately my hard working committee have been busy with the plans for a fun morning. Many thanks to Mary-Elizabeth, Maria, Yoko, Satomi, Flo, Elizabeth, Julie, Erris and Val.

My sincere wishes for an enjoyable, healthy and safe Christmas and New Year to all .
